UL Certified Labels & UL Label Printing

Premium Quality Custom UL Labels

Label Tech is an authorized printer of UL labels using the registered trademarks that are tightly controlled by Underwriters Laboratories. UL labels with either the UL or UR registered certification marks may only be used on or in connection with products certified by UL and under the terms of written agreement with UL.

Prior to production of UL labels, the final layout of the most common TYPE R MARK must be provided to UL for review and acceptance. A copy of the UL label to be printed, which we can provide, must be approved and stamped by UL's Label Center and must be provided to us. You can find a detailed explanation of the requirements on the UL web site.

The component mark (UR) does not require a stamped drawing, but it is recommended that the label information be reviewed for correctness by your UL engineer.

The most controlled UL labels are the Type L. These require authorization for each order (with Issue or Serial Numbers) provided by UL Laboratories. By sending a copy of your label order to UL an order number is given to us from UL with the appropriate quantities and issue/serial numbers.

Finishes, Coatings & Considerations for UL Certified Labels

We recommend laminating or varnishing to protect against moisture and fading and to ensure the longevity of your UL labels. Lamination would be the ultimate protection for UL labels, so we highly recommend this depending on your application.

Printing on plastic substrates such as silver polypropylene, clear polypropylene and white polypropylene will give the added protection you may require for your UL labels. Silver poly can add a pop of metallic to your label to really make it stand out. Clear poly will allow you to see through the label to the product underneath, or artwork can be backed with white ink for opacity. These Plastic substrates are very resilient and will withstand a variety of different conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions about UL Approved Labels & UL Label Printing

What’s the difference between matte and gloss lamination?

Gloss lamination is good for a high sheen, and matte lamination is good if the matte appearance is your goal (matte lamination is also very trendy). Matte lamination is also good if you want to mark on the label with a sharpie or pen.

How do I choose an adhesive?

Selecting the right adhesive is critical to ensuring your product label remains intact. Questions we may ask to determine which adhesive is best include: Is it going in a refrigerator or freezer? There are adhesives specially designed for freezer applications. Is the product hot filled or cold filled? Is it applied to a wet surface?

What is the average turnaround time for my labels?

Once your artwork is received and we have a P.O. with your requirements, the typical turnaround time is 10 business days. There are exceptions to this so please ask us during the quoting process if you require a better lead time.

Where do I send my label art files?

Your files can be sent via email to art4label@labeltechinc.com or you can upload directly through our ftp site.

What are the file requirements for labels?

Please look at our File Requirements sheet for more information.

Are you ISO certified or is there a quality management system in place?
